Frequently Asked Questions:
What days do you teach? I currently give lessons on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays between 1:30 and 8:30 pm. I do NOT give lessons (or makeup lessons) on the weekends.
When can I start? In the event that I have a time slot(s) available that will fit your schedule, we can potentially begin within the week.
What happens if I can’t make any of the days/times you currently have available? I will add your name to my waiting list and when another time slot becomes available, I will give you a call. (Please note: I always begin at the top of the list, with those that have contacted me first, and then work my way down until I find a student that is able to fill the available slot.) Depending on your availability, you could remain on the list anywhere from several weeks to over a year.
Are lessons year round or just during the school year? Except for major holidays, I teach year round. Most students take lessons for the entire year; however, for those that wish to take the summer off, that is not a problem - please just let me know in advance.
How long do lessons typically last (i.e. months/years)? That is a hard one to answer. Some students simply desire to learn the basics of art, thus enabling them to efficiently produce drawings for required school projects. Others desire to make art a lifelong pursuit. The range therefore can vary from several months to several years of instruction.
What is the minimum/maximum age that you will work with? As long as a student is able to sit still and concentrate for an entire lesson and has reasonably developed fine motor skills, any age is the right age to begin art lessons! Currently, I have students ranging in age from about 7 to 70.
Can parents stay for lessons? Yes, most definitely. I have an extra desk and chair in the studio that parents may use. However, I ask that additional siblings be limited to one and only if he/she can remain quite throughout the entire lesson.
How much homework do students have to complete outside of class? This will depend, in part, on the speed at which you work. On average, students spend 2 hrs/week working on assignments at home. Obviously, the more time/effort you put in, the greater your success will be. However, please let me know if I am giving too much or not enough work, and I will adjust the pace/workload accordingly.
What happens if I arrive late to my lesson? I schedule all of my lessons 15 minutes apart. This additional time between lessons enables me to ready the studio for the next student and to accommodate the occasional delays in traffic, etc. However, if excessive tardiness becomes the norm, lessons will be cut short.
Where should I park? Please park your vehicle on either side of the street directly in front of our home – NOT on the driveway.
Our family home schools, can we give art credit for the lessons? Yes. If requested, I will supply you with a letter/grade sheet stating the assignments that your child has completed for the semester and/or school year.
I am an adult with absolutely no art experience whatsoever, do you think I can really learn to draw? YES! Much like learning to play an instrument, I believe that with the right instruction and practice, anyone can learn to do it. Just remember, Grandma Moses didn’t begin painting until she was in her 70’s and look where art took her!
